Allstar Refjudzi band will celebrate new CD at Club Night
Who Eats Dogs? is the provocative title of the Allstar Refjúdží Band’s second album. Led by American musician Michael Romanyshyn, the band combines music of different styles and from various cultural sources. The band’s protagonists are Chinese singer Jing Lu, Kurdish singer and oud player Miran Kasem, singer and musician Philipp Schenker from Switzerland, and Armenian accordionist Gugar Manukjan. The Allstar Refjúdží Band is characterized by its large cast of musicians, unusual and surprising instrumentation, and its unique outlook, which permits expression of the world’s most important problems with humour and irony.
The new album, which is being released three years after the band’s successful debut SPAS!, features several new band members, such as Lukáš Mičko (guitar) and Kryštof Verner (trumpet). Jing Lu, who among other things has adopted the so-called male voice of Beijing opera, lends the album a special flavour. The song Children’s Dreams features three twelve-year-old Roma boys from Ústí nad Labem – Marek Baláž, Patrik Gorol and Milan Makula – who rap their own poetry. Other special guests on the album include Ondřej Smeykal (didgeridoo), Jaryn Janek (contrabass) and Tiny Beat (beatbox).
