Alin Coen Band (DE)
It can be said that members of the musical group Alin Coen Band met at the right place at the right time. They first met 6 years ago in a dark rehearsal room in Weimar. Three men – Jan Frisch (electric guitar), Philipp Martin (bass guitar) and Fabian Stevens (drums) managed to create an atmosphere that shows Alin Coen’s warm voice to good advantage and enriched sensitive ballads of this young singer-songwriter. Apart from accompanying an excellent singer, they were four musicians who wanted to develop their unique and speaking of sound interesting cooperation.
In 2010, the band released their debut album “Wer bist du?” (“Who are you?”) which has sold about 30 000 copies. During their last tour, the band performed internationally in nearly sold out both small and large concert halls. In 2011, Alin Coen Band won a prestigious “German Songwriter Prize” (Prize of the German singer-songwriters) in the novice category.
Now, on the brink of their second album release “We’re Not the Ones We Thought We Were” the band can say that it is more ambitious and provocative than their debut. It is determined by stunning sound with gritty vocals and musical arrangement. It has a global flavour which is caused by the fact that most of the songs are written in English. Their unique lyrics, written by the singer herself, are poems and short stories. The song “A No is a No” opposes violence in relationships. Another song called “Disconnected” talks about alienation between people and the process of making things they use. Alin Coen talks about these issues that point to weaknesses of our society with great passion.
The name “We’re Not the Ones We Thought We Were” can be seen as a statement-declaration which refers to an awareness of life and our attitude towards it. New songs reflect the minds and hearts of the generation of people who cannot find themselves, and yet they keep on searching.
