Statement by the Organizers of United Islands by Česká spořitelna

The floods have put the planned program of United Islands by Česká spořitelna at risk. Nearly all of the assumed festival area has been struck with persistent rainfall and the soaking soil prevents the erection of stages on Kampa, Petřín and Kinský Garden. At the moment, no authority is able to foresee the risks potentially present under the surface and no guarantees may be given as to the safety of the visitors. “These reasons have propelled us to searching a secondary location where the festival would be held to the maximum extent. We are hard at work on the subject with the City Hall, the districts and all partners of the festival,” adds Martin Voňka, one of the event organizers. David Gaydečka, the festival dramaturgist and organizer, confirms cancellation is not the plan: “We believe the festival will take place. A change of the date, however, is not a feasible way of addressing the problem as the unique situation of all 195 artists confirmed and meeting on one location at a single time is unlikely to arise again.” The organizers believe that all ends well and that the visitors will find the festival in the new locations which will support to all the affected persons as well as a thank-you to all people who helped in coping with the June floods. We are holding meetings about the new locations; information will be available at www.unitedislands.cz and on the festival profile on Facebook.

Česká spořitelna is the general partner of the festival. Main partners of the festival are Prague City Hall and Gambrinus Excelent. Partners of the festival are ČEZ, OKD, NROS and Committee of Good Will – Olga Havel
