The Clash magazine described Dreams, the new album by the Danish trio, WhoMadeWho as a “new, exciting chapter”. The audiences of Prague’s Palác Akropolis are in for a mouthful of excitement from smart electro-pop on 16 May, when WhoMadeWho are playing live their new album, Dreams.

 Disco-punk, strong melody, clear vocal lines, a nocturne feel, some house rhythm and memories of punk rage… this does not characterize any of Daft Punk albums, but the music of three Danes: Jepp Kjellberge, Tomas Barfod, and Tomas Høffding. The resemblance in style is straightforward and it is clearly just a coincidence that WhoMadeWho have already performed with Daft Punk live. After all, it is the concerts that have propelled the band from the club scene to festival stages all over Europe.

Having made several singles for the German label Gomma, WhoMadeWho released their debut album in 2005 and took to presenting the eponymous record in clubs across Europe. They made a good use of their experience from playing live acoustic versions of their tracks in the next album, Green Versions (2006). One year later they grabbed wide attention as unexpected headliners of the Benicàssim festival in Spain. The advertised stars of the evening, Klaxons from the UK, failed to arrive on the location on time, which caused all the fame to be collected by WhoMadeWho.

The following album, The Plot (2009), was an event most expected by music fans. WhoMadeWho have performed alongside established artists like Soulwax, Hot Chip, Justice, and LCD Soundsystem. The band’s disco-express is going full steam ahead: they are signed by the trend-setting label Kompakt and quickly release two albums, Knee Deep (2011) and the highly acclaimed Brighter (2012). They have kept their pace until now. Apart from frequent concerts, the band has recorded another album, Dreams, which they are coming to present in Prague in the spring.

The new album is released on 3 March as a CD, a limited-edition double LP, and as digital download.

Anyone looking for a spring evening with playful, smart indie electro-pop must not miss Palác Akropolis on 16 May.
